Petrol Tanker Drivers have embarked on a nationwide protests over the leadership crisis rocking the Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers NUPENG.

The drivers have threatened to breakaway from NUPENG unless National  President Williams Akporeha and General secretary Afoloabi Olawale, resign.

According to a joint signed statement by Comrade Gbenga Olawale and Comrade Adekunle Rufai, made available to Channel Network Afrique,, Comrade Williams lacks the capacity to lead NUPENG as he is not a member of the union.

They alleged that Williams, was a cook in an oil company from the formal sector, where he rose to become the National Treasurer of NUPENG before his sack from the services of the company.

Williams was further stated to have been drafted into petrol station workers of NUPENG (PSW) where he contested and won election as NUPENG President, which the statement added was a clear departure from the Unions constitution.

The Petrol Tanker Drivers however noted that their members have commenced protest across the country over their demands as they warned against interference and harassment from NUPENG and the Police.

They affirmed themselves with the vision of former National Chairman and Deputy Chairman of the PTD, lucky osesua and Dayyabu Garaga, who despite intimidations fought for the liberation of the union.
