The Defence headquarters says its attention has been drawn to a video clip in circulation across social media handles involving some soldiers engaging with bandits somewhere in Katsina State and has commenced investigation..
According to a signed statement by the Director Defence Information, Brigadier General Tukur Gusua made available to Newsmen, the investigation will confirm the authenticity of the video especially the soldiers seen in uniform.
He said the Defence headquarters is aware of the resolve of some bandits to repent and hand over their weapons to the authority which is yielding good results and is still ongoing.
According to the statement, the Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa assures Nigerians that the Armed Forces of Nigeria will engage in every lawful means possible to ensure peace and stability reign in the country.
He further assured Nigerians that the military non-kinetic measures aimed at restoration of peace is yielding results, with several bandits and other criminal elements surrendering to authority.
Governments at all levels are however encouraged to allow bandits genuinely willing to surrender to do so while the window is still open.
The Defence Spokesman further noted that the Defence Headquarters is doing everything possible to restore peace and tranquility all over the country and urge all citizens to remain calm and be law abiding.
