Stakeholders Task FG On Affordable Housing Policy.’

Statistics from the International Human Rights commission indicates that more than 28 million Nigerians lack access to decent and affordable housing.

This is in tandem with the estimates of the Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria, which project that Nigeria requires at least 28 million housing units to close the nations Housing gap.

The rise in rural-urban migration, lack of an efficient mortgage system, poverty, increasing construction costs, high inflation and declining household income, are some of the factors responsible for the deficit in the housing sector.

Speaking at the 17th Africa International Housing Show in Abuja, the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio advocated reasons why the challenges in the Housing sector must be addressed as an obligation of the Government.

Represented by Senator Asuquo Ekpeyong, Akpabio expressed the commitment of the 10th senate to profer solutions to the challenges in the secror.

Also speaking at the occasion, the Permanent Secretary, Federal Capital Territory, Olusade Adesola spoke on diverse housing initiative promoted by the FCT in the pursuit of ensuring that every resident of the capital Territory,owns a decent accommodation.

Some stakeholders in their remarks called on the Federal Government to implement a workable housing policy that will meet the expectations of Nigerians.

The theme of the 17th Africa International Housing Show which provides an exceptional platform for all stakeholders to converge, collaborate and share insight on transformative solution for housing and construction is “Beyond Rhetoric to Homes: Making Housing Happen”.
