FG Unveils Plans to Provide Free Meals for all Primary School Pupils by 2030.

The Federal Government has set a target of 2030 for provision of free meals to all primary school children nationwide.

The gesture which remains one of the key policies of the Buhari administration is presently been extended to pupils in Primary 1 to 3 nationwide.

Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, Sadiya Umar Farouq who disclosed this at the National Home Grown School Feeding Programme Policy Stakeholder Validation workshop in Abuja,said the programme has succeeded in lifting thousands of people in the food supply value chain from abject poverty.

Represented by the Coordinator, National Social Investment Programme, Dr. Umar Bindir, the Minister indicated how key stakeholders like women and farmers will benefit from the initiative. Aishatu Digil presented the Policy framework of the program which according to her will be extended to out of school children including those with special needs and others learning under emergencies.

The policy which commenced in 2016 presently provides free meals to over 10 million primary 1 to 3 children nationwide.
