Nigerian Government has recorded over one point three billion United States dollar from its non-oil exports at the end of the first quarter of 2023.
The Executive Director, NEPC, Ezra Yakusak disclosed this at a news conference in Abuja to give an update of the agency’s non-oil performance and progress report of the period under review.
He said $1.34bn which translates to six hundred and seventeen billion naira represents an increase of 8.5 per cent over the same period of the preceding year which stood at one point two five billion united states dollars.
The NEPC boss said the agency’s Export 4 Survival initiative played a significant role in the surge as it awaken the export drivers of the citizens.
He noted that with the full implementation of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), Nigerian products will flood the African market.
The NEPC Executive Director however, spoke on the collaborative efforts with the National Universities Commission to include exports into its curriculum.
The 2023 first quarter top five exporters of Nigerian products which include urea, cocoa beans, sesame seed, soya beans meal and cashew nuts and kernels are Brazil,China, Japan, Indian and the Netherlands.
