WHD: FG urges States to Lift Embargo on Employment in the Health Secror.

The need for state governments to remove embargo on employment of health workers including Doctors and Nurses has once again been re-emphasized by the federal government.

Minister of Health Dr Osagie Ehanire gave the indication at the commemoration of the 2023 World Health Day and World Health Workers Week in Abuja.

Dr Ehanire noted that efforts by the federal government to achieve universal health coverage and quality health services will be in futility if the state governments do not ‘rise to the occasion.

The Minister who acknowledged the implication of brain drain of healthcare professionals said efforts are on to address the challenge.

On his part, representative of United States Agency For International Development (USAID) Paul McDermott, restated the agencies commitment to partner with Nigeria to resolve some of the challenges in the health sector.

The theme for the 2023 World Health Day is: “Building a Resilient PHC System” and the theme for the World Health Workers Week is: “Investing in the Health Workforce”.
