FG Assures More Support On Ground-Breaking Scientific Innovations
There is no doubt that Science, Technology and Innovation are cornerstones of every country’s economy, Its development and deployment will in many ways enhance the pace of socio economic development of a country through appropriate technological inputs into productive activities.
Nigeria has however been on its oars through the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation in ensuring that it is not left behind in productive activities and deployment of Science, Technology and Innovation for the growth and development of the country.
Addressing a media parley in Abuja, the Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation, Senator Adeleke Mamora who reeled out some of the Ministries achievements since his assumption of office said the ministry has continued to implement various policy documents such as the revised STI policy, National Science, Technology and Innovation Roadmap, and Methanol Technology Fuel Policy, among others.
He added that the ministry’s policy on welding approved by the federal executive council will help in stimulating industrialisation and sustainable development in the country.
Mamora also shared his thoughts on what the ministry is doing especially as it relates to using research and development to tackle unemployment and other challenges..
He further identified inadequate funding of research and development as key to reasons why the nation was yet to attain rapid development and industrialization.
The Minister however expressed optimism that with the approval of 0.5% of the Gross Domestic Product(GDP) to fund the Science, Technology and Innovation ecosystem, the financial situation of the Science, Technology and Innovation sector would improve when the implementation fully comes on stream.
