The organisation which has gone through lots of transformation since it’s establishment, evolved to become world’s most reputable standards regulatory bodies due to its good leadership as demonstrated by successive Chief Executives.

Addressing a news conference on activities lined up to commemorate the agency’s golden jubilee, SON Director General, Mallam Farouk Salim said plans are on to amend the exist Act to meet with present day reality.

He noted that the provisions of the proposed law would not only stipulate that importers, dealers and manufacturers of sub-standard products be fined but be jailed also on conviction by the court.

The SON boss also accused importers of counterfeit products of contributing to the present insecurity bedeviling the country.

It would be recalled that the Act establishing the Standards Organisation of Nigeria was last amended in 2015.
