Statistics revealed that since the 1970s down to the late 80s, the Nigerian Textile sub-sector of the economy was the largest employer of labour only next to Government due to its value chain.

But this drastically changed due to neglect by successive governments of the once vibrant subsector that lays the nation’s golden eggs.

The lack of political will saw several textile mills going into comatose while other relocated to neighbouring countries.

To change the narrative, Women In Business And Tourism Nigeria took the bull by the horns by perfecting plans to organise a four-day African Textile and Fashion Expo with a view to revamping the textile mills in order to create jobs for the unemployed especially the youth.

Speaking at a news conference ahead of the Expo, President, Women In Business And Tourism, Sophia Khan said the fiesta will avail Nigeria the opportunity to more foreign earnings through high patronage of textile by other African Countries and the world.

Some stakeholders also took turns to speak on the benefit of the expo to the economic development of Nigeria.

The maiden Abuja African Textile and Fashion Expo will hold from 5th to 8th December, 2022.
