The Federal High Court sitting in Abuja has adjourned indefinitely the trial of the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Nnamdi Kanu.
Justice Binta Nyako adjourned hearing of the case to await the decision of the Supreme Court on appeals that were filed by both the Federal Government and Kanu’s defence team.
FG is challenging the Court of Appeal judgement that dismissed the 15-count terrorism charge it filed against Kanu at the supreme court.
On the other hand Kanu through his lawyers led by Mike Ozekhome approached the same apex court to challenge the legality of the appellate court’s decision to stay the execution of the order for his release from detention.
The prosecution counsel, Mohammed Abubakar did not oppose the application filed by Ozekhome for the case to be adjourned to await Supreme Court’s decision.
Ozekhome however, noted that his client was yet to be served with a copy of the fresh charge FG filed against him, saying his team only heard about it from the social media.
Kanu who filed a fundamental rights enforcement suit against FG before the judge for detaining him contrary to the order for his release by the court of appeal was absent in court during the hearing on the case.
