The National Universities Commission (NUC) has approved the establishment of the University of Ilesha,Osun State.
The Executive Secretary of the National Universities Commission, Professor Adamu Rasheed stated this while presenting the operational license of the institution to Osun State Governor Isiaka Oyetola.
He said the new institution is the 60th State and 220th University in Nigeria. Prof Rasheed applauded the decision by the Osun state government tailored the focus of the University on Agriculture, Agri-business, food insecurity, mining technology and Medical Sciences.
Responding, Governor Oyetola said the desire to contribute to the diversification of Nigeria’s economy and wean it away from overreliance on oil informed reasons for the establishment of the institution.
Also speaking, former Governor of Osun State, Chief Bisi Akande calls for more quality interventions in the nations education system.
With the establishment of the University of Ilesha, Osun State now has two state universities and two federal universities which are Obafemi Awolowo University OAU and Federal University of Health Sciences, Ila Orogun
