As part of preparation for next year’s Housing and Population Census, the National Population Commission NPC has constituted an independent committee with a mandate to conduct the Post Enumeration Survey of the headcount exercise.
The post Enumeration Survey is usually the next big task undertaken after the Census. Declaring open the trial census PES master training workshop in Karu, Nassarawa state, NPC Chairman Isa Kwarra said the survey is key to the conduct of any successful headcount as the end results are usually used to measure coverage and content errors in the housing and population census.
Represented by the federal commissioner, Edo state, Tony Ayejina ,the NPC boss expressed confidence in the ability of the committee to deliver an error free survey.
Kwarra further reiterated the NPC unwavering commitment to conduct a technology driven census inline with international best practices. Responding on behalf of the committee, it’s chairman and chief technical adviser to the United Nations Population Fund UNFPA, Dr. Collins Opiyo said the exercise is to ensure credibility of data generated from the 2023 census.
Facilitators at the workshop are expected to breakdown the training in the six states of Adamawa, Bayelsa, Nassarawa, Katsina-,Anambra and Ogun where the PES is expected to take place.
