Ahead of the 2023 General elections, the Catholic Bishop of Sokoto Diocese, Mathew Kukah has indicated reasons why political actors in the country should play by the rules as outlined in the electoral act.
Archbishop Kukah who said this at the signing of the peace accord for the Osun State Governorship election said the gesture if embraced will restore the confidence of the Nigerian electorates on the electoral process and the nation’s democracy.
Lamenting how many hopes have been dashed due to challenges of bad governance, especially in the delivery of democratic dividends to the people, the cleric said it is time to change the narrative.
Kukah didn’t stop there, as he further urged Nigerians to take the issue of election very seriously by participating in the process. In his remarks, the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission INEC, Prof Mahmood Yakubu assured of the ever readiness of the commission to deliver on its mandate. The role of peace in ensuring a peaceful electoral process was also highlighted at the ceremony.
