Nigeria, European Union Intensify Negotiation On Migration, Mobility

The Federal Government has resumed negotiations with the European Union (EU) on issues bordering on migration, mobility and other priority areas. Nigerian Ambassador to Belgium, Obinna Onowu made this known at the Nigeria – EU Readmission Agreement Negotiation Session in Abuja.

Amb Onuwu who was also the Head of Nigerian delegation to the negotiation said the partnership which is basically on access to legal migration was ealier stopped due to the outbreak of COVID-19 pandemic has resume and it will be of mutual benefit to both parties adding that element of trust and engagement is paramount in implementing the discussion.

On her part, the EU Ambassador to Nigeria, Samuela Isopi said it was the fourth high-level visit this year and more is expected to come. She however, expressed optimism that the cooperation will extend the partnership between Nigeria and EU as well as strengthen dialogue on migration and other issues of common interest. It is expected that, the outcome of the negotiations will improve the existing bilateral relationship between Nigeria and the European Union on migration and mobility among other agreements.
