While the outcome of most political parties presidential special congresses have continued to attract concerns in relation to allegations of vote buying of delegates, the development is fast snowballing into a situation where deep pocket aspirants secure the necessary votes and emerge as candidates.
Despite relevant sections in the electoral act to tackle the menace,the Independent National Electoral Commission INEC seems helpless in the task of identifying culpable individuals and ensuring their prosecution in competent law courts.
Accordingly,some Nigerians in their reaction, expressed reservation over the trend with calls on relevant agencies to do the needful. They further wonder how products from a compromised system can initiate a strong political will to fight corruption.
On the way forward,they advocated the need for Nigerians to de-emphasize money politics and begin to push for clear-cut party manifestoes that seek lasting solutions to the people’s most pressing needs.
