2023: 811 Delegates Set To Elect PDP Presidential Candidate.
The National Convention of the main opposition Peoples Democratic Party is set to commence inside the Velodrome of the Moshood Abiola National Stadium, Abuja.
811 delegates who were elected one each from the Local Government Areas across the country are expected to elect the party’s flag bearer for the 2023 presidential election.
The Party in a press statement early hours of Saturday 28th May had debunked media speculations that the Convention would not hold following the adjustment by the Independent National Electoral Commission INEC that granted six days waiver for political parties to conclude the processes of their primaries, insisting that it is going ahead with the special convention.
As expected, the venue of the national convention is wearing a colourful look, with delegates and party’s stalwarts sitting on different rolls according to their states.
Out of the 17 aspirants who purchased the PDP nomination and expression of interest forms, two were disqualified by the screening committee led by the former president of the Senate David Mark while the former governor of Anambra State, Mr Peter Obi and a business mogul, Hyatudeen Mohammed withdrew from the race leaving 13 aspirants to slug it out among themselves.
As at the time of filing this report, the process leading into the primary proper has commenced.
