2023:1.8m New Voter Cards Ready For Collection- INEC

The Independent National Electoral Commission has indicated plans to commence the distribution of over over 1.8 million newly printed Permanent Voters Card after the Easter holidays.

INEC Chairman, Prof Mahmood Yakubu said this at a news conference held at the commission headquarters in Abuja.

Prof Yakubu said the number comprised of 1,390,519 cards of genuine new registrants in the first and second quarters of the Continuous Voter’s Registration (CVR) and 464,340 PVCs for verified applicants for transfer or replacement of cards.

The INEC boss who expressed joy over the willingness of Nigerians to participate in the 2023 general elections however raised concerns at the trend of invalid registration.

As expected, the briefing also captured other activities lined up for the 2023 general elections with the commission urging the participating political parties to adhere strictly to all dates in the Timetable, including the nomination of their candidates.

The highpoint of the news conference was the unveiling of the new Permanent Voters Card by the INEC Chairman.
