The Federal High Court sitting in Abuja has adjourned till April 7 to deliver a judgment in the suit filed by the Peoples Democratic Party against the defection of the Cross River State Governor, Prof. Ben Ayade, and his deputy.
Ayade and his deputy defected from the Peoples Democratic Party to the All Progressives Congress prompting PDP to file a suit against them Justice Taiwo Taiwo had earlier fixed April 6 for the judgment in the case against Ayade and his deputy.
But when the court resumed for the judgment, rather than going into the business of the day, Justice Taiwo asked lawyers in the case to address him on the propriety of his delivery of the judgment taking into consideration the Court of Appeal judgment that recently upheld the defection of Ebonyi State Governor, Mr Dave Umahi, and his deputy.
A few weeks ago, the judge had in a similar case ordered the removal of two members of the Federal House of Representatives and 18 legislators of the Cross River State House of Assembly for dumping the PDP for the APC.
The court held that their defection was illegal, unconstitutional hence they cannot continue to remain in office.
