The Minister of Education, Mallam Adamu Adamu says the existence of Local Government Councils as third tier of Government has impacted positively to the successful delivery of Education at the foundation level.
Malam Adamu stated this while receiving a delegation of the participants of the senior executive course 44 of the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies – Kuru in Abuja.
Represented by the acting Permanent Secretary, David Gende the Minister said the course with the theme “Strengthening Local Government in Nigeria’ challenges, options and Opportunities” is coming at a very critical time when the existence of the local Government in Nigeria has been attracting lots of concerns leaving a number of responsibilities under the tier unattended.
He noted that the current weak state of the local Government has contributed in the unsuccessful delivery of a number of programme aimed at bringing education to the child.
Earlier, the leader of delegation and Director of Studies NIPPS kuru, Prof. Para Mallam stated their mission to the ministry.
In his presentation, the Deputy Executive Secretary, Universal Basic Education Commission, Isiaka Kolawole who stated that the one of the responsibilities of government is to eradicate illiteracy highlighted some of the challenges faced by the commission and the possible way out.
The Ministry of Education had in 2016 instituted a strategic plan on issues and problems of education in Nigeria as part of agenda to fulfill the transformative campaign promises of President Muhammadu Buhari on the Education sector.
