Wike Meets Rivers APC, PDP Chairmen Amidst Growing Political Realignment
The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Barr. Nyesom Ezenwo Wike, has engaged in a high-profile meeting with the leadership of the two major political parties in Rivers State.
The Minister was joined by Chief Tony Okocha, Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State, and Hon. Chukwuemeka Aaron, the PDP State Chairman.
The meeting, which took place in Abuja, highlights an unconventional cross-party alliance that has come to define the current political landscape of the state.
Unified Front
The gathering of both party chairmen alongside the FCT Minister is seen as a formalization of the “Renewed Hope” political family in Rivers State. While Hon. Chukwuemeka Aaron leads the faction of the PDP loyal to the Minister, Chief Tony Okocha represents the APC wing aligned with Wike’s interests.
Rising Tensions
The meeting comes at a time of significant friction between the Minister and the Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara. Only days prior, during a public event in Okrika, Minister Wike declared that supporting a second term for the Governor would be a “political burial” for his camp.
This strategic meeting follows Wike’s recent warnings to external party officials against interfering in Rivers State’s internal dynamics. Observers suggest that by bringing both party heads to the table, the Minister is consolidating a unified structure ahead of the 2027 general elections.
