US, Nigeria Joint Air Strikes On Terrorist Targets In Sokoto, Welcome Development- TDF
The Democratic Front (TDF) has formally welcomed a high-profile military collaboration between the United States and Nigerian authorities, following coordinated air strikes targeting terrorist enclaves in Sokoto State.
In a statement released by Chairman Mallam Danjuma Muhammad and Secretary Chief Wale Adedayo, the TDF confirmed that the operation was the result of weeks of joint intelligence and surveillance.
The group emphasized that the strikes were conducted with the explicit authorization of President Bola Tinubu to ensure the protection of the civilian population.
According to the TDF, the mission was characterized by intense diplomatic and military communication.
Foreign Affairs Minister Yusuf Tuggar reportedly held a lengthy discussion with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio to finalize the operational parameters while President Tinubu granted final approval for the strikes after receiving assurances regarding the precision of the targets.
US Secretary of War Pete Hegseth confirmed via social media that the strikes were carried out in “coordination with Nigerian authorities,” expressing gratitude for Nigeria’s cooperation.
The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) stated that the primary goal of the mission was to weaken established terrorist networks in the Northwest region.
While the strikes were launched by US forces under the direction of President Donald Trump, the TDF noted that Nigerian forces provided critical ground-level intelligence to minimize collateral damage.
”We see the airstrikes as a commendable outcome of the ongoing Nigeria/United States collaboration on security and intelligence sharing,” the statement read. “This is a demonstration of the beauty of international collaboration.”
The TDF dismissed claims by opposition elements that the strikes violated Nigeria’s territorial integrity.
The group argued that because the operation was requested and approved by the Nigerian government, it represented a strategic partnership rather than an infringement on sovereignty.
The statement further noted that the strikes followed several weeks of Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (ISR) flights over the North West and North East regions.
The TDF indicated that further joint operations are likely in the coming weeks as both nations continue to share intelligence to “stem the tide of insecurity.”
The group called on Nigerians to support the administration’s efforts to leverage international partnerships for regional stability.
