The controversy surrounding the appointment of Prof. Aisha Maikudi as substantive Vice -Chancellor for the University of Abuja is yet to be over as members of the institutions senate have petitioned President Bola Tinubu on what they described as a flawed process.
Recall, Prof. Maikudi was on Tuesday, 31st December, 2024, announced as the substantive Vice Chancellor of the university of Abuja.
Before now, about 67 Professors in the institution had submitted a petition to the Minister of Education querying the process. This time around, Senate members of the university were also at the ministry armed with a petition addressed to President Tinubu.
Speaking with newsmen, one of the Senate members, Prof. Kashim Waziri called on the President to intervene in the development as well as ensure due process is strictly adhered to as prescribed by the law, conventions and traditions governing public universities.
Another Senate member, Prof. Rosemary Udeuzor while faulting the process called for the immediate removal of the Chairman of the Governing Council, Air Vice Marshal Saddiq Ismaila Kaita (Retd) for standards manipulation.
She highlighted the processes as enshrined in the university laws for appointment of a Vice Chancellor which the council Chairman allegedly refused to comply with.
At the time of filing the report, the aggrieved Senate members were yet to see the Minister.
It is expected that justice will be done on all sides of the divide with a swift action by the government that would guarantee a hitch free academic session in the ivory tower.
