Dr Sa’ad Umar Idris has officially resumed duty as the Resident Electoral Commissioner, Independent National Electoral Commission INEC Gombe state.
The handover ceremony was attended by the outgoing REC, Alh Ibrahim Umar, Administrative Secretary, Heads of Departments (HODs) including General Administration and Procurement (GAP), Electoral Operations, Election and Political Monitoring (EPM), Legal, Finance and Accounts, along with other key staff.
Dr Idris in his remarks, expressed gratitude to his predecessor for the warm reception and comprehensive handover.
He called on the HODs and staff to uphold professionalism, excellence, dedication, integrity, and teamwork and transparency in their duties, stressing these principles are the foundation of the Commission’s mandate.
The new REC indicated his openness and accessibility to both HODs and all Staff encouraging them to approach him with novel ideas that will move the Commission forward. He further emphasized the need for collective effort, urging the team to work cohesively and collectively to serve the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and Nigeria, ensuring credible electoral processes.
Earlier, the outgoing REC Alhaji Ibrahim Umar provided insights into the Gombe INEC office’s operations, noting that Gombe State comprises eleven Local Government Areas (LGAs). He highlighted challenges encountered during his tenure, such as natural disasters including winds blowing off the roofs of some LGA offices at the start of the rainy season.
Umar reassured the new REC that Gombe presents no major issues and expressed confidence in a seamless transition and the ability of the new REC to confront the challenges headlong. He warmly welcomed the new REC, wished him success, and pledged his support for a productive tenure.
The ceremony concluded with the formal signing of the handover notes, with both RECs endorsing the document detailing the office’s operations, assets, and ongoing responsibilities.
