A major road traffic crash involving six vehicles on the AYA-Nyanya Expressway left two people injured on Monday evening, March 16, 2026. The incident, which occurred near the Kugbo Furniture Market, triggered a rapid emergency response from the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC).

The statement signed by Felicia Kalu, Corps Commander and Public Education Officer at the FRSC National Headquarters indicates that the crash occurred at approximately 4:48 PM and involved two tippers, a commercial bus, and three private vehicles. According to official reports, 39 people were involved in the accident.

Rapid Rescue Operations

The FRSC Zebra 12 Unit arrived at the scene within four minutes of receiving a distress call. Operatives successfully extricated one victim trapped inside a heavily damaged tipper. After receiving on-site first aid, the victim was evacuated to the National Hospital for treatment.

A second victim, suffering from minor injuries and bruises, was stabilized at the scene. No fatalities were reported.

Traffic Management and Investigation

The Unit Commander led the coordination of rescue efforts and traffic control. Heavy-duty recovery equipment was deployed to clear the wreckage, which had initially obstructed the busy highway. The FRSC successfully restored the flow of traffic, preventing a major gridlock on the corridor.

The vehicles involved have been handed over to the Karu Police Division for further investigation into the cause of the crash.

Official Statement

Corps Marshal Shehu Mohammed commended the speed of the rescue operation and reiterated the FRSC’s commitment to rapid emergency response. He issued a fresh appeal to motorists—specifically drivers of heavy-duty vehicles—to adhere to speed limits and maintain lane discipline.

”Motorists must remain vigilant at all times to prevent avoidable crashes and protect lives on Nigerian roads,” the Corps Marshal stated.
