The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Maitama Tuggar, has reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to safeguarding religious freedom and promoting social cohesion across Nigeria.

In a Christmas message released through his Special Assistant on Media and Communications Strategy, Alkasim Abdulkadir, the Minister emphasized that the safety and rights of Nigerians of all faiths both at home and in the diaspora remain a top diplomatic and domestic priority.

Tuggar described the holiday season as a vital period for reflection and renewal. He noted that the values of Christmas resonate with Nigeria’s diverse heritage and provide an opportunity for citizens to recommit to mutual respect and shared responsibility.

“The Nigerian state is founded on the principle of freedom of worship and mutual respect among its people,” the Minister stated. He further pledged that the government would continue to strengthen national institutions to ensure no citizen is marginalized or excluded based on their religious beliefs.

The Minister also called on Nigerians to embrace unity and patience, describing the nation’s diversity as its primary strength.

Concluding his message, Tuggar extended his wishes for a peaceful celebration and a prosperous New Year to Christians in Nigeria and globally, advocating for “collective progress” for the nation in 2026.
