The Diplomatic Correspondents’ Association of Nigeria (DICAN), in partnership with the Federal Ministry of Foreign Affairs, will host its inaugural International Diplomatic and Security Conference in Abuja an ambitious gathering aimed at reflecting on Nigeria’s evolving foreign policy in an increasingly complex and uncertain global landscape.

The Conference with the theme, “Nigeria’s 4Ds Foreign Policy Strategy Amidst Global Security Challenges, Strategic Misperceptions, and the Age of Disinformation: The Role of Diplomacy, Intelligence, and Media in Shaping National and Global Stability,” will convene top-level policymakers, diplomats, intelligence and security experts, media professionals, and academics.

The event will take place at the prestigious Rotunda Hall, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Abuja.

Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Grand Patron of DICAN, His Excellency, Ambassador Yusuf Maitama Tuggar, will deliver the keynote address

A robust panel session will be chaired by the Ambassador of the European Union to Nigeria and ECOWAS, and will feature key figures including the National Security Adviser (NSA), the Director-General of the National Intelligence Agency (NIA), the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), and Professor Sheriff Ghali of the University of Abuja.

More than just a policy dialogue, this conference signals DICAN’s growing commitment to strategic stakeholder engagement as a tool for peacebuilding and conflict prevention at a time when global security tensions are escalating in the Middle East, Eastern Europe, and other parts of the world.

Among the key highlights will be an important presentation on Disinformation and Foreign Information Manipulation and Interference (FIMI) and its growing implications for Nigeria’s national security and public discourse.

Dignitaries expected at the conference include:

A former President of Nigeria, serving State Governors, National Assembly Members, Security Chiefs and Heads of Intelligence Agencies, Ambassadors and Members of the Diplomatic Corps, Senior Government Officials, thought leaders from academia and research institutions.

This gathering reflects Nigeria’s readiness to play a stabilizing role by fostering mutual understanding and multilateral cooperation.

As Nigeria’s foreign policy is increasingly shaped by the principles of the 4Ds Democracy, Development, Demography, and Diaspora this initiative underscores the essential link between diplomacy, intelligence, media responsibility, and national resilience in the global age of disinformation.

Media professionals, policymakers, and the diplomatic community are warmly invited to be part of this pivotal conversation.
