Troops of the Joint Task Force (North East) Operation HADIN KAI have intercepted a major illicit drug supply chain intended to bolster terrorist logistics in the North East.

The breakthrough occurred on January 23, 2026, during the ongoing Operation DESERT SANITY V.

In a statement signed by Media Information Officer for the Joint Task Force, Lieutenant Colonel, Sani Uba and made available to Channel Network Afrique, CNA News indicates that troops acted on credible intelligence to apprehend a 65-year-old female suspect identified as Hauwa Abulazeez.

Key Details of the Interception

The suspect was arrested in the Askira Uba Local Government Area of Borno State. She is alleged to be a primary supplier of cannabis sativa to Boko Haram elements operating across several key axes, including:

  • Askira Uba and Rumirgo
  • Gwahi and Wamdiyo
  • Uvu and Gaya

Preliminary investigations reveal that the illicit substances were sourced from Sarti Baruwa LGA in Taraba State. During the arrest, troops recovered 14 compressed blocks of cannabis sativa, weighing approximately 30 kilograms.

Impact on Regional Security

Military authorities described the suspect as a “key conduit” in a distribution network that fuels violence and instability. By neutralizing this supply route, OPHK aims to achieve several strategic goals:

  • Logistical Degradation: Stripping terrorist groups of substances used to sustain their operations.
  • Crime Reduction: Weakening the criminal influence that destabilizes local communities.
  • Restoration of Order: Reinforcing lawful authority across the Theatre of Operations.
