The Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN) has announced a groundbreaking partnership with GMIND AI to develop an artificial intelligence-powered platform designed to deliver contextualised and simulated lesson plans tailored specifically for Nigerian classrooms.

Speaking at the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in Abuja on Wednesday, TRCN Registrar, Dr. Ronke Soyombo, described the initiative as a major leap forward in modernising education delivery and improving teaching quality across the country.

“This initiative will revolutionise lesson preparation. We want AI-generated lesson plans that are contextualised for our children, with every lesson simulated to enhance comprehension. 21st-century learners need to see and experience concepts for learning to be profound,” Soyombo stated.

The platform, set to launch officially on October 6, will be preceded by the unveiling of TRCN’s new website on August 25. The website will feature multilingual video guides to assist educators. Nationwide training sessions will also follow, covering all six geopolitical zones.

Unlike generic AI platforms, the TRCN-GMIND system will integrate Nigerian history, culture, and local realities into its content. “Our children can still learn about the Victorians, but they must also learn about the Ife and Benin Kingdoms in the same breath,” she emphasised.

The platform will offer two categories of resources: AI-generated lesson plans with simulations for digitally skilled teachers and Prescriptive, ready-to-use lesson plans for teachers with limited ICT skills, ensuring no one is left behind.

The resource bank will span all subjects and will be available online, at TRCN state offices, and in downloadable formats for offline use.

According to Dr. Soyombo, the AI system will also support differentiated learning by offering tailored content for gifted, average, and less able learners, with a strong emphasis on practical, hands-on activities.

“This is teachers supporting teachers,” she said, adding that outstanding educators will contribute to developing the prescriptive lesson plans. “Once the burden of lesson planning is reduced, teachers can focus on adapting materials to their learners’ needs.”

While the platform is initially tailored to Nigerian classrooms, it will be accessible to all TRCN-registered and licensed educators nationwide.

Also speaking at the MoU signing, Dr. Deji Ajani, Director of Strategic Partnerships and Innovation at GMIND AI, described the project as a flagship example of how AI can be harnessed for educational development in Africa.

“We are excited to co-create TRCN AI a customised ecosystem that blends cutting-edge technology with Nigeria’s unique educational needs,” he said.
