Tinubu Flags-Off Construction Of INEC Annex Office.

President Bola Tinubu has inaugurated the construction of the annex office of the Independent National Electoral Commission INEC.

At the flag off ceremony of the 5 storey edifice in Abuja, the president restated his administration’s commitment to equip INEC with the necessities to discharge it’s constitutional mandate with courage and fairness.

Stating that the electoral body remains the backbone of the nations democracy, Tinubu said the decision to embark on the project is primarily to ensure INEC is housed in a befitting structure that reflects it’s national relevance.

In his welcome remarks, INEC chairman, Prof Mahmood Yakubu commended president Tinubu for approving the project especially as the headquarters complex has become severely overcrowded due to its significant growth over the years.

Meanwhile, the FCT minister, Nyesom Wike was quick to debunked insinuations from some quarters linking the project to cheap political gains, insisting that the FCT administration had been involved in building and maintaining federal government offices in Abuja including the presidential villa.

The annex office when completed will feature modern office spaces, meeting and conference rooms, a 1,000-seat auditorium, and facilities for high-tech operations such as the Election Monitoring and Support Centre (EMSC) among other facilities to aid the operations of the commission.
