President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the establishment of the National Research Development Fund, aimed at promoting innovation, excellence, and global competitiveness in Nigeria’s higher education sector.

The Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, announced the development at the official launch of the African Centres of Excellence (ACE) and the unveiling of the ACE Compendium held in Abuja.

Dr. Alausa explained that the initiative underscores the Tinubu administration’s commitment to fostering a knowledge-driven economy through research and innovation.

Highlighting some of the achievements of the ACE centres, Alausa identified the internationalisation of education as one of the most remarkable outcomes of the programme.

In his welcome remarks, the Executive Secretary of the National Universities Commission (NUC), Prof. Abdullahi Ribadu, noted that the ACE project has significantly impacted Nigeria’s university system by facilitating the establishment of modern laboratories and producing highly skilled graduates.

Other speakers at the event reflected on the far-reaching impact of the ACE initiative in addressing regional developmental challenges through capacity building and enhanced collaboration among participating universities.

The highpoint of the ceremony was the unveiling of the ACE Compendium and a tour of exhibition stands by the Minister of Education, featuring displays from some of the participating universities.
