Tinubu Approves ₦70bn Solar Power Project For Tertiary Institutions.
President Bola Tinubu has approved the implementation of a ₦70 billion mini-grid solar power project under the 2025 Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) intervention cycle, aimed at addressing the persistent issue of erratic electricity supply in tertiary institutions across the country.
Chairman of the TETFund Board of Trustees, Aminu Bello Masari, announced the approval at the 2025 TETFund National Town Hall Meeting held in Abuja.
Masari who described the initiative as part of broader reforms to drive innovation and efficiency in Nigeria’s tertiary education system added that the solar power project is among several key interventions designed to enhance the quality of teaching, learning, and research, while promoting energy sustainability.
Also speaking at the event, TETFund Executive Secretary, Arc. Sonny Echono, highlighted the critical role of stable electricity in advancing digital learning, research, and innovation.
The Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, and other dignitaries at the event lauded TETFund for its strategic interventions and commitment to transforming the nation’s education sector.

The solar power initiative will be implemented in 12 selected institutions, including the Nigerian Army University, Biu; Northwest University, Kano; Ambrose Alli University, Edo State; Alvan Ikoku University of Education, Imo State; and Lagos State University, among others.
