The Comptroller, Bayelsa State Command of the Nigeria Immigration Service,CIS Sunday James has admonished Nigerians to respect the rights of others as well as their responsibilities to government as patriotic citizens.
In a signed statement by the
Command Public Relations Officer,
Ibeinmo-Cookey Ebitimitula, the Comptroller who stated this while commemorating the world press freedom day noted that Press Freedom is not the same as antagonism, sabotage, using the social media or other forms of traditional media; print, radio and television to cause disaffection, disorderliness and erode confidence of citizens in government through publications or broadcasts that are unethical and unprofessional sponsored by enemies of the state in contrast to the provisions of the Freedom of Information (FoI ) Acts.
He added that information dissemination must flow with ease and seamlessly without the author or publisher being harassed, cowed or made to play a sit down and look instead of speaking truth to power and acting as 4th realms of government and umpires to point and correct wrongs in the society for a better governance and citizenship in a state of harmony and peaceful co- existence.
