Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, has concerns over the trend of vote buying and delegate manipulation during party primaries.
The INEC Chairman gave the indication at the first quarterly consultative meeting with civil society Organisations held at the commission headquarters in Abuja.
Prof Yakubu who informed the CSOs that the meeting was called to update them on preparations for the Anambra Governorship elections and FCT area council polls urged them to expand their monitoring efforts on party primaries to ensure compliance with electoral laws and regulations.
Responding on behalf of the CSOs,the Executive director,Partners for Electoral Reforms, Ezenwa Nwagwu,acknowledged the challenge thrown at them by INEC, while calling for a concerted effort with the security agencies and other relevant institutions.
The CSOs promised to work with INEC and other stakeholders to ensure that the electoral process is free, fair, and credible.
