Over N92b UBEC Matching Grants Accessed By 25 States, FCT In Six months.
The Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) says a total of ₦92.4 billion in matching grants has been accessed by 25 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) between January and June 2025.
UBEC Executive Secretary, Dr. Aisha Garba, disclosed this during a three-day Financial Management Training for State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) officials held in Abuja.
Represented by the Deputy Executive Secretary, Technical, Rasaq Akinyemi, Garba announced the disbursement of ₦19 billion from the 2023/2024 Teacher Professional Development Fund, as well as ₦1.5 billion under the School-Based Management Committee (SBMC) School Improvement Programme to 1,147 communities across the 36 states and the FCT.
Despite these interventions, the UBEC boss expressed concern over the ₦250 billion still unutilized in the coffers of various states and the FCT, highlighting the gap between available resources and actual implementation.
Reflecting on challenges encountered since assuming office, the UBEC boss noted that delays in accessing and utilizing UBE matching grants among several others remain a significant concern at the state level.
Other speakers at the workshop encouraged participants to uphold professionalism in delivering training outcomes in their respective states.
The workshop is themed: Efficient and Effective Management of UBE Intervention Fund, a key to successful Basic education service delivery.
