The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced that over 4.4 million Nigerians have completed online pre-registration in the ongoing nationwide voter registration exercise.
According to the National Commissioner and Chairman, Information and Voter Education Committee, Sam Olumekun, a total of 4,445,505 citizens had completed their online pre-registration as of Sunday, 14th September 2025.
The update was shared in a statement issued on Monday, 15th September 2025, marking the fourth week of the exercise, which began on 18th August 2025.
A gender breakdown of the figures shows that 2,141,294 (48.17%) of the registrants are male, while 2,304,211 (51.83%) are female. In terms of age and occupation, 2,924,643 (65.79%) are young people aged between 18 and 34 years, and 1,112,344 (25.02%) are students.
Regarding completed registrations which include both online pre-registration and subsequent in-person verification INEC reported that 509,929 citizens had finalised the process as of Friday, 12th September 2025. Of this number, 229,758 (45.06%) are male and 280,171 (54.94%) are female. By age group, 378,132 (74.15%) are between 18 and 34 years, while 196,529 (38.54%) are students.
Olumekun noted that a comprehensive breakdown of the registration statistics including data by state, gender, age, occupation, and disability status has been published on the Commission’s website and social media platforms.
Focusing on the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), the IVEC Chairman stated that online pre-registration ends today, Monday, 15th September 2025. Thereafter, physical registration will continue for the next two weeks at designated centres before being extended to all 62 Wards in the FCT from 29th September to 8th October 2025.
He added that the addresses of all registration centres have also been made available on INEC’s official platforms.
