Kogi State Governor, Ahmed Usman Ododo, is set to commission 80 revitalized Primary Healthcare Centres (PHCs) across the state as part of the first phase of the government’s PHCs modernization project, which began in April 2024.

This was disclosed in a statement signed by the Governor’s Special Adviser on Media, Ismaila Isah.

According to the statement, Governor Ododo will perform the official flag off at the Primary Healthcare Centre, Old Market, Lokoja, on Friday, marking the start of a state wide exercise aimed at transforming primary healthcare facilities into functional, modern centres that will deliver quality healthcare services to citizens in all parts of the state.

During earlier inspection visits to some of the completed PHCs, Governor Ododo reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to ensuring that every Kogi resident regardless of location has access to efficient and affordable healthcare, especially at the grassroots.

He emphasized that the modernization project goes beyond infrastructure renovation, focusing on restoring public confidence in healthcare delivery through the provision of modern equipment, qualified medical personnel, and adequate drug supplies. This, he noted, aligns with the state government’s agenda of providing affordable and effective health services for all.

Governor Ododo also expressed appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his visionary leadership in the health sector and for fostering an enabling environment for states to strengthen their healthcare systems through renewed investments and collaborative frameworks.

He described President Tinubu’s focus on primary healthcare and human capital development as a major inspiration for his administration’s ongoing health sector reforms in Kogi State.

It will be recalled that in April 2024, Governor Ododo launched the revitalization of over 200 PHCs across Kogi State. The first phase of the project has now reached completion in 80 centres across various local government areas including Idah, Igalamela, Kabba, Lokoja, Mopamuro, Okene, Ogori-Magongo, Ijumu, Yagba East, Adavi, and others.
