Ododo Flags Off 12.5km Unosi-Odonto-Ogigiri Road Construction To Boost Agricultural Dev. In Kogi
Kogi State Governor, Ahmed Usman Ododo, has flagged off the construction of the 12.5-kilometre Unosi-Odonto-Ogigiri rural road in Ajaokuta Local Government Area, marking a major stride in the state’s rural infrastructure and agricultural development efforts.
The project, executed under the Rural Access and Agricultural Marketing Project (RAAMP), is expected to significantly improve transportation and access to farmlands, markets, schools, health centers, and other essential social amenities for communities along the corridor.
Speaking at the flag-off ceremony held in Ogigiri, Governor Ododo reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to inclusive development, emphasizing the importance of rural accessibility in driving economic growth.
“This project signifies a bold declaration of our administration’s unbending commitment to inclusive development, rural prosperity, and the transformation of agriculture in Kogi State,” the Governor said.
He highlighted that upon completion, the road will provide year-round access, cut travel time, and reduce transportation costs for rural dwellers.
“This corridor, located in the agricultural heartland of Ajaokuta, holds strategic significance as it links clusters of farming communities that contribute greatly to our state’s food security. Today marks the beginning of the end to their transportation challenges,” he added.
The Governor noted that the road construction aligns with RAAMP’s core objectives promoting sustainable rural road networks, enhancing agricultural productivity, and reducing post-harvest losses through improved market access.
Kogi State Commissioner for Rural and Energy Development, Engr. Mohammed Abdulmutalib, described the road as a crucial link between key farming clusters. He emphasized its role in strengthening food security and promoting economic trust across the state.
Also speaking at the event, the National Coordinator of RAAMP, Engr. Aminu Bodinga, stated that the initiative aligns with the development priorities of both President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Governor Ododo. He revealed that under the current administration, Kogi State is set to benefit from up to 1,500 kilometers of rural roads through similar partnerships.
“This is more than just construction. It is about building resilience in our rural economy, supporting agricultural value chains, and ensuring that no community is left behind,” Bodinga said.
He added that residents along the corridor will be trained in routine road maintenance, in line with the administration’s broader plan to empower grassroots communities and improve livelihoods.
Engr. Bodinga also urged contractors to ensure timely completion and deliver value for money.
In his remarks, the member representing Ajaokuta Federal Constituency, Hon. Abdulraheem Sani Egidi, thanked the Governor, noting that the project holds the potential to transform the economic fortunes of Ajaokuta and the state at large.
Chairman of Ajaokuta Local Government, Hon. Haruna Aliyu, said the road connects 10 out of the 14 wards in the LGA and described it as a major catalyst for the local economy.
Local residents expressed appreciation to the state government, saying the road would ease the movement of goods and services, enhance trade, and improve rural living standards.
