Kogi State Governor, Ahmed Usman Ododo, has congratulated the publisher of NewsDiaryOnline, Danlami Nmodu, on his election as the new President of the Guild of Corporate Online Publishers (GOCOP).

In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Media, Ismaila Isah, Governor Ododo described Nmodu’s emergence as a testament to the unity, maturity, and professionalism within the Guild.

The Governor commended the peaceful and transparent nature of the election, noting that the largely unopposed emergence of candidates reflected the strong bond and mutual respect among GOCOP members.

He urged the new president to lead with fairness, transparency, and accountability, while upholding the principles of responsible journalism and professional ethics that have positioned GOCOP as a leading voice in Nigeria’s media space.

Governor Ododo also reiterated his administration’s commitment to press freedom, describing the media as an essential partner in strengthening democracy and ensuring public accountability.

“I congratulate the new leadership of GOCOP and urge members to remain at the forefront of promoting responsible journalism. As an administration, we shall continue to expand the frontiers of press freedom as a critical pillar of democracy while encouraging fairness, accountability, and professionalism in media practice,” he said.

The Governor further praised GOCOP members for their role in disseminating information about government policies and programmes, describing the Guild as a reliable bridge between the government and the citizenry.

Mr. Danlami Nmodu was elected GOCOP President after a keenly contested election held in Lagos, succeeding the immediate past president and publisher of RealNews, Dr. Maureen Chigbo.
