The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has introduced new systems and innovations aimed at enhancing the efficiency of its Orientation Courses and ensuring a greater positive impact on Corps Members.

The Director-General of the NYSC, Brigadier General Olakunle Nafiu, disclosed this in his keynote address at the 2025 Batch ‘C’ Pre-Orientation Course Workshop held in Abuja.

According to a statement signed by Caroline Embu, Director of Information and Public Relations, General Nafiu said the workshop themed “Strengthening the Orientation Course Framework for Greater Relevance and Impact on National Service” was designed to review previous Orientation exercises, generate new ideas, and adopt best practices that would make future courses more impactful.

General Nafiu emphasized that the Orientation Course serves as the foundation for a successful service year, providing the first impression of the NYSC Scheme and the states of deployment to Corps Members.

He explained that the Pre-Orientation Workshop would focus on emerging issues affecting Corps participants and the Scheme’s overall operations.

“This workshop theme reflects our desire to reposition the Orientation Course as a more dynamic, responsive, and impactful phase of the National Service.
To achieve this, we must be willing to critically review our ways of doing things, fine-tune our approaches, and evolve new ones,” he stated.

The NYSC DG urged participants to share their experiences and challenges, particularly those relating to key aspects of the Orientation exercise, such as reception of Corps Members, registration, closing ceremonies, and posting for Primary Assignments.

He also commended partner agencies and stakeholders for their continued support for the Scheme and urged them to sustain their commitment toward the success of NYSC programmes.

Earlier in his welcome address, the Director of Planning, Research and Statistics, Mr. Nura Umar, called on participants to make meaningful contributions that would enhance the success of the 2025 Batch ‘C’ Orientation Course.

He also encouraged them to maintain high standards of professionalism and a strong commitment to excellence, while remaining open to innovative ideas that could improve overall outcomes.

Participants at the workshop included members of the NYSC top management, State Coordinators, Camp Directors-designate, Camp Commandants-designate, and representatives of partner agencies.
