The National Youth Council of Nigeria, NYCN, has expressed reservation over publications in the media faulting the proposed 2022 expenditure of the Federal Inland Revenue Service, (FIRS) Recall that a Punch Newspaper report of October 17, 2021, had in a banner headline christened “FIRS to spend N2.8bn on uniforms, N550m on meals, Board members to earn N370m sitting allowance,” provided detailed analysis of the proposed expenditure of the agency. National President of the NYCN, Comrade Solomon Adodo, while reacting on the development at a news conference in Abuja alleged sinister intentions behind it. He wondered why such a document should suddenly become public controversy especially as it will eventually pass through the required legislative scrutiny. The Council however urged Nigerians to support the present leadership of the FIRS for initiating reforms targeted at repositioning the nation’s tax administration system. Adodo further disclosed plans to partner with other like mind CSO’s across the country to shame tax offenders.
