NOUN VC Calls for Protection Of African Knowledge As AI Reshapes Open Education
The Vice Chancellor of the National Open University of Nigeria, Professor Olufemi Peters, is calling for stronger efforts to preserve and promote African knowledge traditions as artificial intelligence becomes more widely used in open education.
Professor Peters made the call at a two-day regional workshop on Open Educational Resources in the age of Artificial Intelligence, held in Abuja.
Represented by the Deputy Vice Chancellor, Academics, Professor Chiedu Mafiana, the VC said AI has the potential to transform the development of digital learning materials—but warned that cultural and ideological diversity must be protected.
