The National Orientation Agency (NOA) has called on Nigerians to use their United States visas responsibly and in accordance with the stated purpose and classification of their travel documents.

The Director General of NOA, Mallam Lanre Onilu, gave this advice while emphasizing the need for Nigerians to avoid misusing U.S. visas. He noted that the agency, in line with its mandate, is committed to educating citizens on proper conduct, especially when traveling abroad.

In a statement released by the Agency’s Director of Communication and Media, Bala Musa, the NOA DG explained that U.S. visa vetting does not end at the point of entry. He warned that American authorities continue to monitor the activities of visa holders, and violations of immigration or other U.S. laws can lead to visa revocation, deportation, or other penalties.

Onilu also reminded travelers to comply with U.S. regulations regarding the declaration of cash and the transportation of goods. He advised Nigerians to declare all cash amounts exceeding the legal threshold at points of entry and avoid carrying prohibited items in their luggage.

“Overstaying your visa or violating its terms can lead to deportation or a lifetime ban from future visits to the United States,” he stated. “Your actions could also harm the chances of other Nigerians with genuine intentions of traveling.”

The NOA Director General further urged Nigerian students in the U.S. to take timely steps to regularize their visa status before expiration. He also cautioned against applying for tourist visas with the intent of giving birth in the U.S. solely to obtain American citizenship for the child, noting that such applications are likely to be denied by consular officers.

The agency concluded by reiterating that the United States enforces strict visa policies aimed at safeguarding its borders while promoting lawful and transparent international travel.
