No Room for Mediocrity in Army Hotels – COAS
The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, has called for the immediate adoption of global management standards across all Nigerian Army hospitality businesses to ensure sustainability and institutional credibility.
Speaking on Tuesday at the opening of the Army Headquarters Department of Special Services and Programmes (DSSP) Annual Stakeholders Conference in Abuja, the COAS emphasized that excellence in service delivery is no longer optional but a critical requirement for the Army’s commercial assets.
Focus on Global Competitiveness
The conference, themed “Conforming to World-Class Management Standards for Sustainable Nigerian Army Hospitality Businesses,” serves as a platform for industry experts and military stakeholders to refine strategies for the quality and efficiency of Army-run suites and mess facilities.
Lieutenant General Shaibu, represented by the Chief of Logistics (Army), Major General Adekunle Adeyinka, noted that while these facilities provide essential subsidized services, they must remain innovative and inclusive to remain competitive.
”The transformation of the Nigerian Army into a more professional and resilient force extends to how we manage our institutional assets,” the COAS stated, linking the hospitality sector’s improvement to his broader command philosophy of professionalism and adaptability.
Commitment to Growth
Major General Aminu Garba, the Chief of Special Services and Programmes (CSSP), highlighted that the department is actively repositioning Command Guest Houses nationwide. He credited recent improvements in customer retention and quality management to the sustained support of the Army leadership.
The COAS also used the occasion to reaffirm the Nigerian Army’s “unalloyed loyalty” to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Constitution, thanking the Commander-in-Chief for his strategic guidance.
