The Organised Labour, comprising of the Nigeria Labour Congress and the Trade Union Congress have threatened to embark on a nationwide strike if it’s demands over the treatment melted out to the NLC President Comrade Joe Ajaero were not addressed by the Imo state Government.
Comrade Ajero was on November 1st, 2023 allegedly abducted and brutalized by officers and men of the Imo State Police Command from the NLC Secretariat in Owerri while on a peaceful protest.
Reacting to the development at a joint news briefing in Abuja, Deputy President of the TUC Comrade Etim Oko who reeled out the Demands by both unions, called for the immediate investigation and redeployment of the Imo state Police Commissioner among several others.
The need for an unbiased thorough professional medical check up of the NLC President, Comrade, Joe Ajero in light of the physical and psychological injuries sustained from the incident,was also captured in the communique adopted at the briefing.
Earlier, the NLC Deputy President painted a detained picture of the circumstances that led to Congress President Ajaero’ ordeal.
The Unions further indicated that Journalists and other workers that fell victim to the inhuman act be treated and properties lost restored immediately.
