NIMC to Launch Nationwide Ward-Level NIN Enrollment
In a major push to decentralize identity management, the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) has announced that nationwide ward-level enrollment for the National Identification Number (NIN) will begin on Monday, February 16, 2026.
The initiative follows a presidential directive aimed at bringing registration services to the grassroots. According to a statement signed by Kayode Adegoke, NIMC’s Head of Corporate Communications, the exercise is designed to ensure every Nigerian citizen and legal resident—including children and adults—is captured in the National Identity Database.
Stakeholder Engagement and Logistics
To ensure a seamless rollout, the Commission has commenced extensive consultations with state and local governments, traditional rulers, community leaders, and faith-based organizations. These stakeholders are expected to assist in sensitizing the public on the importance and benefits of the NIN.
NIMC is urging the public to turn out in large numbers to register themselves and their dependents.
”The ward-level enrolment initiative represents a strategic step towards deepening identity inclusion and bringing registration to the communities,” the statement read.

The Commission will utilize a rotational schedule for its staff and licensed front-end partners. Citizens are advised to:
