NIMC Eyes Stronger Partnerships To Bolster Digital Identity System.
The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening Nigeria’s digital identity system through strategic partnerships with government agencies and other key stakeholders.
Speaking at a two-day roundtable with online publishers in Abuja, NIMC Director General, Engr. Abisoye Coker-Odusote represented by the Director of the Special Project Office, Dr. Alvan Ikoku said the collaborations aim to streamline identity verification processes, enhance data security, and expand the adoption of the National Identification Number (NIN).
The NIMC boss who emphasized the vital role of the media in sensitizing citizens about their rights to digital identity and in promoting awareness around data protection and inclusion, announced that over 122 million Nigerians have been enrolled in the National Identity Management System as of July 2025.
Also speaking at the event, the Coordinator of the Nigeria Digital Identification for Development (ID4D) Project, Mrs. Tito Ejenavi, underscored the significance of the initiative in expanding NIMC’s technical infrastructure and reaching underserved populations.
In his welcome remarks, the Chairman of the Association of Corporate Online Editors (ACOE), Mr. Sola Akingboye, lauded the Engagement, describing it as a timely move to foster collaboration between digital media professionals and NIMC in building a secure and inclusive digital identity ecosystem.
Themed” Building Trust in Digital Identity: Strengthening Media Partnership for a secure inclusive Ecosystem”, the roundtable served as a platform for aligning media efforts with national goals in digital identity management.
