The Armed Forces of Nigeria (AFN) has reported significant operational successes in its ongoing battle against insurgency, banditry, and oil theft across the country.
In a statement by the Director of Defence Media Operations, Major General Michael Onoja and made available to Channel Network Afrique, CNA News, the military detailed series of intelligence-driven strikes that led to the neutralization of numerous terrorists, the arrest of dozens of criminal suspects, and the rescue of several kidnapped victims.
North East and North West Operations
In the North East, Operation HADIN KAI maintained its momentum against Boko Haram and ISWAP. Ground troops, supported by Nigerian Army Aviation and the Air Component, conducted precision strikes in Borno State, specifically in Damboa and Abadam. These air interdictions resulted in dozens of neutralized terrorists and the destruction of their equipment. Between January 19 and 23, seven suspects were arrested, and four victims were rescued across Borno, Adamawa, and Yobe States.
In the North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA intensified offensive actions across Zamfara, Katsina, Sokoto, and Kaduna States. Troops apprehended 10 terrorists and rescued seven kidnapped victims following fierce firefights. A substantial cache of weapons, vehicles, and rustled livestock was also recovered.
Gains in the North Central
Operation ENDURING PEACE, focused on the Plateau State axis, saw the arrest of 39 criminals and the rescue of four victims. Notably, troops recovered $4,500.00 in cash from a suspect, identified as proceeds from the sale of rustled cattle.
Simultaneously, Operation WHIRL STROKE extended its reach into the FCT, Kogi, and Kwara States, alongside its core areas in Benue and Taraba. These efforts resulted in the arrest of 11 suspected kidnappers and the rescue of six victims.
South-South and South East Successes
Military efforts in the Niger Delta via Operation DELTA SAFE dealt a blow to economic saboteurs. Troops discovered and dismantled 20 illegal refining sites and arrested 31 oil thieves.
In the South East and Cross River axis, Operation UDO KA recorded a major breakthrough when approximately 80 militants from two different camps surrendered to troops in Akpabuyo, Cross River State, seeking amnesty. Additionally, troops successfully rescued eight Cameroonian nationals who had been abducted by sea pirates at the Ikang waterways.
Major General Onoja emphasized that these operations are conducted with strict adherence to the Rules of Engagement and international humanitarian law. He concluded by urging the media to maintain professional and responsible reporting to counter misinformation and support national security.
