Nigerian Troops Neutralize 18 Terrorists In North East Dawn Raids
Troops of the Joint Task Force (North East) Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK) neutralized at least 18 terrorists and recovered a significant cache of heavy weaponry following a series of coordinated operations across the region.
Dawn Raids at Bula Dalo and Garno
In a series of surprise night-to-dawn operations, Sector 1 troops targeted a terrorist stronghold at Bula Dalo. During the fierce engagement, 12 terrorists were confirmed neutralized, forcing the survivors to retreat. Following the battle, troops recovered an arsenal including:
- Four AK-47 rifles
- One PKT anti-aircraft gun
- One Rocket Propelled Grenade (RPG) launcher
- One multiple grenade launcher
A secondary deliberate operation at the Garno terrorist camp resulted in the deaths of six additional insurgents. Troops destroyed the camp’s life-support structures and seized a large quantity of anti-aircraft ammunition.
Defense of Sabon Gari
In a separate engagement on January 29, Sector 2 troops stationed at Sabon Gari successfully repelled an assault by ISWAP fighters. The attack was notably supported by multiple armed drones, which briefly breached a section of the military’s defensive perimeter.
With the arrival of reinforcements from nearby locations, the troops thwarted the assault and restored full control of the area. However, the military reported that the drone strikes caused damage to an excavator and a lowbed vehicle.
Casualties and Commendations
The operation came at a cost, as some soldiers and members of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF) “paid the supreme price” while defending the location. The exact number of casualties was not specified in the initial report.
Lieutenant Colonel Sani Uba, the Media Information Officer for the Headquarters Joint Task Force (North East), stated that exploitation of the affected areas is ongoing to deny the remnants of the terrorist groups any freedom of action.
The Military High Command has formally commended the troops for their gallantry, urging them to maintain an aggressive stance and remain vigilant against evolving threats.
