Nigeria, UNDP Collaborate To Enhance Democratic Values, Peace, Stability In Africa

The Nigerian government, United Nations Development Programme, and other development partners met to re-strategize on how to enhance democracy and democratic values in Africa.

The meeting was the Regional Partnership for Democracy Strategic Stakeholders Engagement at the United Nations Building in Abuja.

Speaking at the occasion, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Tuggar represented by the Permanent Secretary, Ambassador Dunoma Ahmed, expressed Nigeria’s commitment to advancing democracy, peace, and stability not just within the West African sub-region but across the African continent.

The Minister added that the Regional Partnership for Democracy initiative is also aimed at strengthening democratic institutions and promoting citizen engagement that aligns with the aspirations of the people.

Earlier, the United Nations Development Programme, UNDP Resident Representative in Nigeria, Elsie Attafuah, highlighted the critical role of the RPD in reinforcing the integrity and independence of democratic institutions.

Some strategic stakeholders also spoke on the importance of the engagement.

The Regional Partnership for Democracy will also generate strategic decisions, encourage innovative partnerships, and explore collaborative pathways for institutional financing and sustainability.
