NELFUND Records Major Uptake In Ogun State After Successful Sensitization Programme

The Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) has announced a significant milestone in Ogun State following its recent sensitization programme held at the Crownbirth Event Center in Ijebu-Ife.

In a statement signed by Mrs. Oseyemi Oluwatuyi, Director of Strategic Communications, NELFUND said the engagement facilitated by Otunba Femi Adewumi and hosted by Dr. Oluwadare Kehinde (Hacco), Executive Chairman of Ijebu East Local Government has resulted in a marked increase in awareness and uptake of the student loan scheme across the region.

The sensitization exercise brought together parents, guardians, students, community leaders, and education stakeholders, offering detailed guidance on how to apply for and access the NELFUND student loan. The Federal Government initiative aims to eliminate financial obstacles and expand access to higher education for Nigerian students.

Highlighting the significance of the programme, Otunba Femi Adewumi stated:
“Our goal was simple—to ensure that no student in our communities is left behind because of financial barriers. I am proud of the impact this sensitization has achieved, and I commend NELFUND for delivering real opportunities to our young people.”

NELFUND confirmed new disbursements for the 2024/2025 academic session to institutions in Ogun State as follows:
Sikiru Adetona College of Education, Science & Technology, Omu-Ajose:
Batch 1: 264 students ₦33,575,000
Batch 2: 59 students ₦6,997,500
Total: ₦40,572,500,
Olabisi Onabanjo University (OOU):
3,473 students ₦718,585,000 and
Abraham Adesanya Polytechnic:
Batch 1: 87 students ₦12,164,500
Batch 2: 18 students ₦14,779,500

All three institutions have acknowledged receipt of the funds.

Speaking on the development, NELFUND Managing Director/Chief Executive, Mr. Akintunde Sawyerr, applauded the collaborative efforts that made the sensitization successful.

“Our mission is to democratize access to higher education for every Nigerian student, regardless of financial background. The support from community leaders such as Otunba Femi Adewumi and Dr. Oluwadare Kehinde shows what is possible when government institutions and local stakeholders work together,” he said.

Sawyerr added that NELFUND is committed to expanding such engagements across all six geopolitical zones to ensure widespread awareness and seamless access to the loan programme.

NELFUND expressed appreciation to Otunba Femi Adewumi for his pivotal role in facilitating the Ijebu-Ife sensitization, which contributed significantly to the impressive uptake recorded in Ogun State.

The Fund reaffirmed its dedication to ensuring that every eligible Nigerian student is informed, supported, and empowered to benefit from the NELFUND loan scheme. Nationwide sensitization tours and institutional visits are ongoing.
